BBOP services down over the June 4th weekend (LBL power outage)

Due to a scheduled power outage at LBL, all Berkeley BOP services will be unavailable from Friday June 3rd in the evening (approximately 5pm) until the morning of Sunday June 5th. This will include GO News, GOOSE, the experimental AmiGO, database mirrors, and any other services hosted at LBL.

Our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

Announcing the new QuickGO user interface

The UniProtKB-GOA group are pleased to announce the public beta release of the new user interface of QuickGO. The new interface can be accessed by clicking on the 'new beta version' link on the front page of QuickGO (http://www.ebi.ac.uk/QuickGO).

AmiGO 1.7 is now available!

We're pleased to announce the release of AmiGO 1.7, now available on the Gene Ontology website:

AmiGO is a web application offered by the Gene Ontology Consortium (GOC) that allows users to browse the Gene Ontology, view annotations from annotating groups, and analyze GO data using tools such as Term Enrichment and Slimmer.

Introduction of has_part relationship in extended GO on July 30

We are pleased to announce that we are about to introduce a new relationship type, has_part, into the "extended" version of GO (ontology/obo_format_1_2/gene_ontology_ext.obo). The target date for this addition is Thursday, July 30, 2009.

This addition may have considerable impact on your tools and analyses because:

1. Loading scripts that use gene_ontology_ext.obo will need to be modified to take the has_part links into account by July 30.

OBO-Edit 2.0 Official Release Available for download

OBO-Edit 2.0 is now released and available for download.

OBO-Edit 2.0 is a major new release, and includes many exciting features such as a graph viewer and editor, a new rule based reasoner, an improved searching and filtering interface and a custom user defined dictionary. For more information please see the release notes.

GO flat file format to be retired

As of 1st Aug 2009, the original GO flat file format files:

  • function.ontology
  • component.ontology
  • process.ontology
  • GO.defs

will no longer be provided by the GO Consortium. The original GO flat file format is deprecated - the GO Consortium uses and recommends OBO
1.2 format for ontology files.

For cases where you still need to work with this legacy file format GO provides a script - obo2flat - which which converts from the newer OBO
