This Newsletter outlines the progress of the Renal GOA Initiative to date and publicises the Kidney Development Ontology Content Meeting that was held at the EBI on 25th January 2010. It was attended by international biomedical experts with an interest in kidney development, GOA curators working on genes involved in kidney development across species (including human, mouse, zebrafish, Xenopus and Drosophila), and the GO Editorial team. The workshop resulted in nearly 80 new terms being created that detail the parts of nephron, collecting duct, stroma, renal capsule, and kidney vasculature development, morphogenesis and pattern specification, as well as ureteric bud branching and malphighian tubule development in Insecta.
